Man found dead after hours long barricade situation in Montgomery County, police say
GAITHERSBURG, Md. (ABC7) —
A man killed himself early Tuesday morning after an hours long barricade situation at a home in Montgomery County, according to authorities.
Montgomery County Police say that the family of a man called police at around 10:00 p.m. on Monday because they were concerned for the man's well being. Officers got to the scene at a house at 20519 Farcroft Lane in Gaithersburg. The two family members made it out of the house but the man had barricaded himself inside.
Police say they wanted to have the man taken to a hospital for a potential mental evaluation and negotiated with him for around three hours but the man refused to come out.
He said he would not be taken alive, according to police.
Police say they had been given an "Emergency Petition" to take the man into custody. Officers say they got inside the house after the hours of trying to negotiate but found the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
There was still a police presence on the scene as of 6:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Officials have not released any other information at this time.
