Man arrested, charged in armed robbery of M&T Bank in Montgomery County
DAMASCUS, Md. (ABC7) —
A man has been arrested and charged in the robbery of an M&T Bank in Montgomery County.
Benjamin Hansberger, 28, of Frederick, was charged with robbery and armed robbery in the incident which took place last Friday.
According to police, Hansberger entered the bank at 9801 Main Street in Damascus around 2 p.m. and demanded money from the teller after telling them he had a gun. He then fled the bank in a vehicle after taking an undisclosed amount of cash.
Montgomery County police later located the vehicle in the 12400 block of Clarksville Pike in Clarksville. Hansberger, along with two other people in the vehicle with him, were detained.
According to surveillance video reviewed by police, Hansberger’s clothes appeared to be the same ones he wore during the robbery. Authorities also said they found a “large amount of cash” and other clothing worn by Hansberger in the robbery.
Hansberger is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center in Rockville without bail. The other two detained were not charged following further investigation.
Hansberger also appeared to rob the same M&T Bank in 2013. According to the Frederick News-Post, a man named Benjamin Hansberger, then 23, was charged in the robbery of an M&T Bank on Main Street in Damascus.
