Loudoun County School Board votes to save four schools from budget cuts

(WJLA) -{ } The Loudoun County School Board voted late Tuesday night to save four of the county's smallest schools from budget cuts, according to Leesburg Today.

With a vote of 6-3, board members agreed to keep Hillsboro, Lincoln, Aldie and Hamilton elementary schools open for another year. The board considered shuttering the schools about three weeks ago in order to save $2 million a year and bridge a $37.7 million funding gap in next year's $949.72 million FY15 budget. The $2 million gain is needed to cover the cost of 2,375 students and three new schools, Leesburg Today reports.

The vote followed a five hour public hearing on Monday that was attended by about 400 people.
