Update: Laurel MARC station parking reopens after flooding concerns

LAUREL, Md. (WJLA) - A commuter parking lot at the Laurel, Md., MARC station was closed for hours Monday morning due to anticipated flooding.

A snowy winter combined with a wet weekend prompted concerns that the Patuxent River would flood, forcing the closure of the American Legion commuter parking lot at the Laurel MARC station.

The lot, as well as the Riverfront Park path, were reopened around 10 a.m. as excess water from the weekend's rains receded.

The lot's closure Monday morning reduced the station's parking capacity by at least 40 percent, and officials said the remaining spots were full following the departure of train 845 at 6:50 a.m. Monday.

MARC had advised passengers to give themselves extra time Monday morning to drive to either the Savage or Muirkirk stations, and said Laurel tickets would be honored at either station without any additional fee.
