WASHINGTON (WJLA) - The woman who was hit and killed by a car on Suitland Parkway just after Christmas is the person who has been reported missing from Washington since Dec. 26, sources say.

Laura Townsend, 71, was reported missing from her Alabama Avenue home on Dec. 26. She disappeared that afternoon and hadn't been heard from since.

The next morning, a woman was hit and killed by car while she tried to cross a dangerous section of Suitland Parkway in Prince George's County. She still has not yet officially been identified.

Now, sources tell ABC7's Jennifer Donelan that the woman hit and killed was Townsend.

Townsend had been described as a 5-foot-7 black female with short dreadlocks, brown eyes and a medium complexion.

Residents of the area where the woman was hit and killed say that the area lacks crosswalks and sidewalks. Pedestrians can often be seen dodging traffic trying to cross the busy road and get to bus stops.
