      The Washington, D.C. Susan G. Komen 3-Day event is coming to a close.

      Since the event kicked off Friday, hundreds of participants have walked 60 miles through Washington, trekking 20 miles each day and sleeping in tents at night, all to make a personal difference in the fight against breast cancer.

      After they cross the finish line, walkers will head to the final closing ceremony, a celebration of their personal accomplishments and participation.{ }

      This is the final year the 3-Day event will come to Washington. Citing a drop in participation more than a year after a funding controversy involving Planned Parenthood, the Susan G. Komen foundation canceled the walk in six cities, including the District.

      The event has raised $34.5 million for breast cancer awareness since it came to Washington in 2004.

      Sunday's closing ceremony will be held at RFK Stadium in Southeast.
