A St. Mary's County man was sentenced earlier this week to at least one year in prison after he threatened law enforcement with a BB gun, prompting officers to respond with live fire.
Southern Maryland News reports that Kevin Vincent Bonds, a 40-year-old St. Inigoes Shores resident, received a 6-year prison sentence in connection with the June 2012 incident. A judge says the court will reconsider his sentence if he pursues drug treatment.
On the day of the incident, Southern Maryland News says that officers went to the home of Bonds, who has a lengthy criminal record, to arrest him for missing a court hearing. When they entered the home, police say Bonds pulled out the pellet gun. That prompted responding officers to open fire.
