John Albers accidentally fires gun, strikes cyclist
A Virginia man’s gun accidentally discharged as he was loading it Saturday, striking a passing cyclist outside his home.
Police arrived at John E. Albers’ Herndon home around 7 p.m. to find a cyclist on the ground with a bullet wound to his abdomen. The cyclist was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was out of surgery and recovering Sunday afternoon.
Albers' neighbor says the cyclist is from El Salvador and works several jobs.
Police say the gun discharged from inside the home. Albers has been charged with willfully discharging a firearm in a public place.
