Job alert: UPS hiring 3,400 workers in DC area for holiday season

UPS announced Wednesday that the company will be hiring about 3,400 seasonal and permanent workers in the DC area to handle the expected increase of packages shipped from November through January 2018.

Nationwide, UPS will hire about 95,000 workers, according to a news release from the company.

"Our seasonal jobs often lead to permanent employment and even careers for some," said CEO David Abney. "We offer flexible shifts and full- and part-time positions. If you are a student, a working mom or just looking to make extra money for the holidays, we have a job for you."

Over the past three years, 35 percent of workers hired for the holiday season continued in permanent jobs after the rush was over, according to a spokesperson.

The openings in the DC area include 1,153 package handlers, 390 delivery and tractor-trailer drivers, and 1,861 driver-helpers.

UPS is hiring for positions at the following locations:

  • Dulles Facility - 4455 Stonecroft Blvd., Chantilly, VA 20151;
  • Newington Facility - 8200 Alban Road, Springfield, VA 22150;
  • Alexandria Facility - 5601 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria, VA 22314;
  • Burtonsville Facility - 14841 Sweitzer Lane, Laurel, MD 20707;
  • DC Building - 8440 Ardwick/Ardmore Road, Landover, MD 20785;
  • Gaithersburg Facility - 9401 Gaither Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20877
