Jessup hostage situation: Family freed, suspect on the loose

Police in Howard County are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for any information that will lead to the arrest of a suspect in a home invasion.

The ordeal began at about 2:19 a.m. Wednesday, when police received a call from a woman reporting an armed man having entered her home in the 7300 block of Montevideo Road in Jessup.

Lisa Adams, one of the victim in the case, called police after hearing footsteps downstairs. She stayed on the phone with police for 10 minutes as she and the other residents locked themselves in an upstairs bedroom.

"The intruder was in the house, I called 911," she says, adding that she didn't notice anything missing.

Within 10 minutes of the initial call, police entered the home, which had evidence of a forced entry at the front door.

The suspect, though, was gone. Family members were in an upstairs bedroom. None of them were injured.

While the investigation is in its preliminary stage, police believe the home may have been targeted. An investigation into the incident continues.
