It was an alarming 24 hours for the family of a 6-year-old Washington boy, who went missing on Sunday but was found late Monday morning.
Now, the woman he was spotted walking away with on surveillance video may face charges in connection with his disappearance.
On Sunday, Jayvon Brown was last seen playing alone in a playground in front of the Columbia Heights apartment where he lived. His mother says she isn't sure exactly when he disappeared.
Shortly after going missing, though, detectives were able to watch surveillance video, where they saw Jayvon leaving the area with a woman known as the neighborhood nanny. That alarmed family members, who say the woman never watched the boy in the past.
MPD detectives then received a tip on Monday morning, leading to the location of Jayvon and the woman on Monroe Street in Northeast, about two-and-a-half miles from Columbia Heights.
Criminal charges are now pending as detectives question the woman. In the meantime, family members are pleased that Jayvon is safe.
"We just thank God that he is in good hands," Diane Kilber, Jayvon's aunt, said.
Jayvon is being evaluated at Children's Hospital, but police do not believe he was hurt during the ordeal.
