James Daniel Howard charged with child pornography offenses

James Daniel Howard is a former undersecretary of the Navy who was also once a special assistant to president Ronald Reagan.

Now he's out on bond waiting for his trial.

Fairfax County police arrested him on charges of child pornography.

According to court records, on August 25th and 27th of 2012, Howard, known as J. Daniel Howard during his time in service, allegedly committed the crimes.

On January 15th of this year, he was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of copying, selling, or transmitting child pornography.

Howard served as special assistant to Reagan from 1986-1988, assistant secretary of defense from 1988-89, where he was a Pentagon spokesman, and as undersecretary of the Navy from 1989-1993.

Howard once even ordered sexual harassment training after what he described as disgraceful behavior toward women in the Navy.

ABC7 went looking for Howard at his stately home in Clifton but no one answered.
