James Chapman, J. Thomas Ryan appointed to Virginia Tech Board of Visitors

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A lawyer and a retired hospital executive have been appointed to the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

Virginia Tech says James L. Chapman IV of Virginia Beach and Dr. J. Thomas Ryan of Fredericksburg were recently appointed by Gov. Bob McDonnell.

The university said Thursday in a news release that Virginia Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services president Steve Sturgis of Eastville will join the board as an ex-officio member.

Chapman is a partner in the Norfolk law firm Crenshaw, Ware & Martin PLC,.

Ryan served as executive vice president and chief medical officer of Mary Washington Healthcare for 16 years before he retired in June. He previously practiced family medicine in a multi-specialty group practice.

Sturgis owns and operates Tri-S Farms.
