The parents of a 2-year-old were arrested Thursday after their toddler was found wandering alone in a hotel parking lot in Frederickburg, police say.
Police arrested James Seth Brown, 31, and Courtney Love Brown, 19, and charged them with felony child neglect. Both are being held in jail under no bond.
“The child was crying, was hungry, he brought him to the lobby and gave him some cookies and kept him warm a bit, and we called the police,” says Wally Harb, the hotel’s general manager.
Their child was taken in the custody of child protective services.
Police say the toddler was discovered at about 5:45 a.m. wandering in the parking lot of the Hospitality House in the 2800 block of Plank Road. He was wearing a diaper and nothing more. A hotel guest found the child trying to open the door to the hotel to get inside, police say.
The hotel said the couple checked in May 25th with a lot of stuff, as if they were living there.
Police initially couldn’t find the parents. But James Brown was discovered walking near the hotel. Courtney Love Brown was later contacted by phone. Police say neither parent contacted police about the toddler being missing.
“It was about six and a half hours before either parent was found and we were able to tell them that the child was unattended,” says Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department spokeswoman.
