(WJLA) - The billionaire co-owner of the Mars candy empire is facing a charge of reckless driving following a fatal vehicle crash earlier this month near Aldie.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s office states that a reckless driving summons was issued for Jacqueline Badger Mars, 74. She is set to appear in court on Dec. 5.

Mars was involved in a vehicle crash on Oct. 4. Authorities say she was driving a Porsche SUV when she crossed a center line and struck a minivan.

An 86-year-old passenger in the minivan, Irene Ellisor, was killed in the crash.

Mars lives in The Plains, Va.

“As court proceedings begin, Jacquie’s thoughts and prayers remain with those who have suffered injury and loss," said Mars' spokesperson. "She regrets this tragic accident.”
