House fire call leads to drug bust in Southeast D.C.

D.C. police made a massive drug bust Tuesday after what first appeared to be a house fire.

When fire crews arrived at 1234 45th Place in Southeast Washington, they found a lot more than they bargained for inside. Officers pulled hundreds of marijuana plants from the home. According to sources, more than 600 marijuana plants were found.

Police also found other equipment, including grow lamps. Some neighbors say they could smell it.

"I would go out to my car or take out the trash, and it was right under my nose, literally,"

Some neighbors say they'd often see someone come to the house, but they never thought this would happen in the quiet community.
