Montgomery County firefighters were called to a house fire in the 24421 block of Ridge Rd. in Damascus just before 3 a.m. Tuesday.

The fire started in the garage and spread to the 1.5 story single-family home, according to a public information spokesperson. Additional units were called to help put out of the fire. Ridge Road between Kings Valley Road and Sweepstakes Road were temporarily closed while firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.

The home’s smoke alarms and the family’s two barking dogs allowed the two adults and four kids to evacuate the home without injury.

Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries, one for possible heat exhaustion and the other for a possible ankle injury.

The fire has been ruled accidental. Damage to the home is estimated at $150,000. The family has requested Red Cross assistance.
