SUITLAND, Md. (WJLA) - Prince George's County police are investigating a homicide that happened early Tuesday morning in Suitland.
According to police, officers responded to a report of an assault in the 4600 block of Huron Avenue around 1:45 a.m.
A public information officer reports the officers found a man unresponsive on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
That man has since been identified as 52-year-old Amos Jones.
An emotional and distraught Terry Wright came to the active crime scene late this morning, desperate for answers, and with a message for police.
"Officer, please find who did this - find them," Wright said. "I have no words to describe this," he said of the loss of his cousin.
Wright, and others who knew Amos, said he was hanging out with friends near a liquor store when he confronted a young girl. An argument reportedly broke out.
A friend, who wished to remain anonymous, said the young woman became angered and left, but then returned with a group of men who brutally beat the victim and then stabbed him multiple times in the chest and neck.
"Amos Jones was a good, young man," said Wright, calling it "a heinous crime."
"He was friends with everyone," said friend Samantha Kinard. "He was a loveable guy."
By noon, merchants were finally being allowed back to their shops, even though several roads remained as detectives gather evidence, snap pictures and talk to witnesses at three different locations near the spot where Jones' body was discovered.
"We are looking at several scenes at this time," said Prince George's County officer Nicole Hubbard.
Silver Hill Road between Suitland and Swann was temporarily closed earlier in the morning due to the investigation. Huron Avenue was also closed, and may still be as the investigation continues
