Saturday's triple digit temperatures caused a number of power outages in the D.C. area to spike.
Both Dominion Virginia Power and Pepco say outages related to the June 29 derecho have been restored. New outages are reportedly a result of the heat putting added stress on the utilities.
Right now, Dominion Virginia Power is reporting 444 customers without power in Northern Virginia.
In Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George's counties, 2,051 BGE customers are still in the dark. Pepco says 1,149 customers are without power, adding that the outages were scattered over the northeastern area of D.C.
The record temperatures wreaked havoc on some of Pepco's operating equipment, causing the outages.
But block by block Saturday night, the lights came back on. This time the outages lasted a few hours instead of days.
Pepco is keeping its out-of-state crews on standby. Just in case, an storm expected Sunday knocks out power again.
