Police continue to search for the two men who sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl in Crofton Tuesday afternoon.

The girl was walking her dog near Ridgley Court and Aberdeen Drive at about 3:20 p.m. when the suspects approached her and sexually assaulted her. The suspects then fled from the area in an older model, red four-door sedan with faded paint.

“Detectives have already been out to the community and handed out fliers. We're going to have a presence in the community. It's a very active fluid case,” said Justin Mulcahy of the Anne Arundel County police.

At a grassy park at the heart of the Crofton meadows community, residents said the area isn’t as quaint as it seems.

“It’s not a great neighborhood. Right there, there is a lot of drug traffic right there,” said Dara Stewart.

“They're up here all the time. It’s not safe,” said Tara Gill.

The incident sounds similar to a case earlier this year when a woman was attacked by two people, also in Crofton, but police believe there is no connection.

There is hope quick arrests will be made in this week's case. Neighbors have told police they recognized the men.

"It's really nerve-wrecking,” said resident Kim Gorelik. “Normally we just let (children) play outside by themselves."

Police describe the two suspects:

Subject #1: White male in his early 20's, 5'7"-5'11", 150-175 pounds with short, brown hair, last seen wearing a red t-shirt and brown shorts

Subject #2: White male in his early 20's, 5'7" -5'11, 150-170 pounds with shaggy, brown hair, last seen wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated and released.

"You feel for the family,” said resident Shelane Toal. She was walking her dogs tonight with her husband by her side.

"It's definitely making me think if I should go that route by myself," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective J. Widup of the Sex Offense Unit at 410-222-3468.
