Germantown gas leak forces evacuation of homes

The break happened near Scenery and Brandermill drives.

Homes are being evacuated in Germantown after a gas main ruptured Thursday morning.

By about 12:45 p.m. authorities evacuated or sheltered in place 241 homes.

The 12-inch main broke in the area of Scenery and Brandermill drives in Germantown. Montgomery County Fire officials are on scene to try and contain the leak.

Fire spokesman Scott Brooks said on Twitter that homes are being evacuated on Brandermill from Scenery to Route 355.
