Georgetown stabbing leaves man dead, wife critical

(WJLA){ }-{ }An elderly man is{ }dead and{ }his wife{ }is in critical condition after both were stabbed Sunday morning inside{ }a Georgetown home.{ }

Bradford Nelson Elliott, 56, is in police custody as the suspect. Sources say he is the couple's son.

Leroi Elliott, 88, was pronounced dead on scene; his wife, also in her 80s, was rushed to an area hospital in critical but stable condition. She reportedly called 911 for help around 6:30 a.m.

Investigators say the crime is domestic. A weapon was recovered from the scene.

It happened in the 3300 block of Q Street NW.

Shocked neighbors reacted as word spread about{ }the violent and deadly double stabbing.{ }

“It is a very safe place, but crazy things happen everywhere. Sorry to hear about it,” says Richard Schmidt.

Nick Peabody, 13, was at a sleepover at the house next door.

“I noticed the sirens, there were a lot of them going on,” he says. “I didn’t find out until the morning there was a murder.”

According to local ANC commissioner Ed Solomon, the suspect may be the couple's son.

“This is{ }something no one could foresee,” Solomon says.{ }“This is something that could happen anywhere whether it’s a mental health issue or something else going on, we don’t know.{ }Of{ }course we are very concerned for our community.”

The murder investigation is just a few blocks from the home where Viola Drath was murdered in 2011. On Thursday, her husband Albrecht Muth was convicted of killing the 91-year-old Georgetown socialite.{ }
