Gas leak prompted brief evacuation of buildings, road closures in Silver Spring

      SILVER SPRING, Md. (WJLA) - A six-story office building was temporarily evacuated and area roads blocked due to a gas leak in Silver Spring Tuesday afternoon.

      Montgomery County Fire and Rescue said around 2 p.m. Tuesday that the Silver Spring Gateway office building, located in the 8700 block of Georgia Avenue at Fenwick Lane, had been evacuated as first-responders investigated and dealt with the gas leak.

      Other nearby buildings and businesses such as the M&T Bank were also temporarily evacuated.

      The scene was cleared and occupants were allowed back into the buildings just after 3 p.m.
