Gas leak shuts down multiple streets in downtown Herndon, Va.

HERNDON, Va. (WJLA) - A gas leak has shut down multiple streets in downtown Herndon.

Town of Herndon police said the leak is located near the intersection of Elden and Spring streets, leading them to shut down all traffic lanes surrounding the downtown area as a precaution.

Members of the Fairfax County Fire Department and gas company are on the scene.

Police said repairs may go into the evening rush hour, so drivers can expect delays, and are asked to avoid the downtown area completely if possible.

All businesses and government buildings in and around the downtown area have been evacuated at this time.
