Fredericksburg attempted abduction: 22-year-old victim gets away

Sketch: Fredericksburg Police

Fredericksburg police investigators are searching for a man who they say tried to pull a jogger into his car on Saturday morning.

Officials say that the attempted abduction happened along Westmont Drive near the Oak Hill Cemetery at about 8 a.m. on Aug. 11. The victim, a 22-year-old woman, says she was running down the street when she was approached by a man in an older white car.

Police say the man asked the woman an incomprehensible question, and when she walked toward the car, he allegedly opened the passenger side door and tried to pull her inside. She was able to get free of the man and ran away.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 50's with a stocky build, dark skin and dark hair. The victim also told authorities that he had "bad teeth" and spoke limited and heavily accented English. He was last seen driving away on Highland Road.

Authorities released a sketch of the suspect on Tuesday. Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities at (540) 654-5759.
