Flooding causes bridge to erode, shut down in Brunswick

ABC7

A road has been closed in Brunswick after a bridge eroded following Tuesday evening’s flooding in Frederick County.

Jefferson Pike (Md. 180) is now closed between Petersville Road and Burkittsville Road as a result of the damage to the small bridge.

Rain caused the water in Little Catoctin Creek to rise and damage the bridge, making it impassable for vehicles. Both the road surface and guardrails were damaged.

According to the Maryland Highway Association, it’s expected to take at least seven days or more to repair.

Concrete barriers have been put up to block people from driving on the road. A detour has been established to U.S. 340, which parallels Md. 180.

Approximately 3,500 vehicles travel over the bridge on Md. 180 each day.

More rain is expected in the forecast Wednesday for Frederick County.
