Firefighters rescue 3 teens from swift water under bridge

Firefighter rescues very lucky teenager from swift water at 38th Street bridge in Mt. Rainier.

Three teenaged boys were rescued from swift water under the 38th Street bridge Friday night in Mt. Rainier.

According to witnesses, the teens were playing by the water and got swept into the current. They clung to a bridge support midway under the bridge.

Firefighters were called at about 7:15 p.m. and performed a high-angle, swift-water rescue, says Prince George's County Fire spokesperson Mark Brady.

Firefighters established a series of ropes and pulleys and lowered themselves over the side to pull the boys from the water.

They were taken to area hospitals for hypothermia but are expected to be fine. Their injuries are non-life threatening.
