Students at Washington's historically black university posed as a group with their hands up, mimicking protestors in Missouri who marched in the same pose chanting "Don't shoot." The Howard University image has been retweeted from its original account more than 7,000 times as of Thursday morning and thousands more have shared the image across social media platforms.

Brown's shooting on Saturday sparked a firestorm of protests that have been met with a show of force from local police. Demonstrations, some of which have turned violet, have been met with rubber bullets and tear gas from officers in SWAT gear.
