Fatal inner loop crash closes beltway during morning rush hour

(WJLA) - A pair of crashes on the inner loop of the beltway, including one that killed a pedestrian, closed traffic on the beltway near its intersection with Route 50 in Prince George's County early Tuesday morning.

The first crash occurred on the inner loop near Route 50 when a vehicle struck an adult male pedestrian, killing him. Maryland State Police told WTOP-AM that the pedestrian was struck as he attempted to flee on foot from a separate accident.

The second crash occurred in the same area, but Maryland State Police said a medical unit on the scene treated only minor injuries and that scene was quickly cleared.

Investigation and cleanup of the crashes closed all lanes on the beltway at Route 50 for several hours, but traffic has since been reopened.
