Family sues Fairfax County Schools over community service guidelines

A Fairfax County school's policy on what constitutes community service hours for National Honor Society students prompted a high school senior's family to sue the school district.

An advisor at Thomas Jefferson High School hadn't counted the girl's Sunday School teaching at a church as meeting the guidelines, which specifically state that teaching Sunday School does not count.{ }

So with the help of the Alliance Defense Fund, an Arizona-based organization originally founded by James Dobson and other conservative religious leaders, the family sued.

A spokesperson for the Fairfax County Schools tells ABC7's Greta Kreuz that the policy is being reviewed and that the girl will be given credit.
