Fairfax supervisors wary of Dulles Metro funding plan

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) - Members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors are wary of U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood's funding plan for the extension of Metrorail to Dulles International Airport.

Lahood has been involved in talks with regional leaders, who have been working to reduce the cost of the $3.5 billion rail project. Under LaHood's plan, Fairfax County would be required to build a Metro station at Route 28. LaHood has said his department would offer federal loans available to the county.

Democratic Supervisor Jeff McKay was among those who expressed concern on Tuesday that the county was taking on too much of a financial responsibility without help from the state government.

Virginia's Republican Gov. Robert McDonnell said this week that the state would not contribute more money to the project.
