Escalators out at WMATA Wheaton station, track work on Red and Yellow Lines

Metro is reporting that the entrance escalators at the Wheaton station on the Red Line are out.

The elevators at the station are still functioning, therefore, the station remains open.

The escalators at Wheaton are the longest in the Metrorail system and are the longest continuously running escalators in the Western Hemisphere, measuring at 230 feet long.

Track work on the Red and Yellow lines will hamper Metro customers this weekend as well.

Red Line trains are single-tracking between Shady Grove and Twinbrook and Takoma and Forest Glen. Yellow Line trains are sharing a track between Huntington and Braddock Road.

Metro asks riders to add 20 minutes to their commutes.
