(WJLA) - Nearly 4,000 Virginia EPPICards were affected by the recent{ }security breach at Target stores nationwide.

EPPICards include child support payments and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefits.{ }

Customer names, debit card numbers, card expiration dates and the three-digit security codes located on the backs of cards may be among the information compromised{ }between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, according to the Virginia Department of Social Services.{ }

Xerox, the vendor for the EPPICard program, blocked all affected cards on Jan. 1. The company is making calls to affected cardholders indicating that the cards are being replaced and mailed.{ }

VDSS customers will not be responsible for any fraud.

Customers can call EPPICard Customer Service at{ }800-961-8423 for more information.

According to Target, 40 million credit and debit cards were affected by the breach. Security experts say it's the second-largest theft of card accounts in U.S. history, surpassed only by a scam that began in 2005 involving retailer TJX Cos.
