Ellicott City officials hold community meeting to discuss next steps after flooding

Ellicott City officials hold community meeting to discuss next steps after flooding (ABC7)

A couple hundred people gathered in Ellicott City Wednesday night to try to learn what help was available after two catastrophic floods in less than two years.

Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman hosted the event, which was held inside both the Howard High School auditorium and gymnasium.

“We want you to make the decision that’s best for you,” Kittleman told the crowd, some of whom are still deciding whether to rebuild or leave Ellicott City.

Kittleman said the county government learned a lot from having to recover from a disastrous 2014 flood, and is trying to put that knowledge to use as the community tries to recover from Sunday’s flood.

After Kittleman, both of Maryland’s U.S. Senators, and several others spoke in Howard High’s auditorium, those attending the event were asked to go to the gymnasium, where tables were set up featuring government and other organizations who were offering assistance.
