Four people were slightly injured and three families have been displaced after a row of townhouses caught fire early Tuesday morning in Howard County.
Five townhomes burned in the two-alarm fire, which was reported just after 12:30 a.m. in the 6900 block of Ducketts Lane in Elkridge. Howard County Fire officials say. It took 60 firefighters from three jurisdictions - Howard, Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties - to put out the flames.
Four of the houses were declared uninhabitable by fire officials, and a fifth house may soon receive the same designation. The families affected by the fire are being helped by the Red Cross and Howard County Fire officials.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials believe it started on the back deck or in the kitchen of one home before spreading through the attic and roof to the four other houses.
Three people who escaped the fire received oxygen therapy and one more was taken to an area hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
