This election season Maryland hasn’t seen a big push from the candidates for president, but it’s still seeing a massive voter turnout.
After more than $80 million in advertisements, Marylanders today are deciding if gambling in the state should be expanded to include a new casino, more than likely at the National Harbor. Question 7 would also add table games like roulette and black jack.
"When my daughter was going to school, they had an issue with funding. Hoping they come through this time and make it possible,” says Jannette Stewart.
Governor Martin O’Malley has been campaigning hard for this with Prince George's county executive Rushern Baker, promising millions of dollars in revenue to go directly to schools statewide.
"We would either have to find those dollars by raising other taxes, not being able to make those increases that are already in the works with public education,” says Governor O’Malley.
But some, like these Question 7 opponents set up outside of a polling place in Prince George's County, would rather find another way to collect revenue for education.
"Mainly because I feel the money does not go to the schools and also for the neighborhoods,” says Jackie Nickens.
The governor is also pushing hard for same-sex marriage, Question 6 on the ballot, an issue that has divided a mother and daughter, even though they came to vote together.
"Biblical speaking, I'm against it,” says Stewart.
"I voted for Question 6 because I believe in equality,” says Yvonne Pearson. “People have a right to choose who they want to love"
