EF-0 tornado confirmed in Fauquier County by National Weather Service

An EF-0 tornado hit Fauquier County near Broad Run Friday evening, the National Weather Service confirmed on Saturday.

NWS officials say the tornado had peak winds estimated at 75 miles per hour with a maximum width of 100 yards. Officials say it ran for 1.2 miles between 6:08 p.m. and 6:10 p.m.

A tornado warning was issued in parts of Virginia Friday as strong storms moved through our region, but the tornado wasn't confirmed by NWS officials until Saturday afternoon.

An EF2 tornado caused major damage across Kent Island on Maryland's Eastern Shore several weeks ago, and NWS officials confirmed EF1 tornado in Salisbury, Md., last week.
