Two gunmen shot and killed a man who was walking in his Aspen Hill neighborhood early Sunday morning.
Police say they don't have much information about the two men who gunned down Edwin Alexander Campos Hernandez, 28, in the 3700 block of Bel Pre Road.
Campos Hernandez was out walking just before 3 a.m. when he was approached by two men and an argument broke out, erupting into gunfire, police say.
Police are looking at motives and trying to confirm more details, including descriptions of the suspects, says Capt. Paul Starks, Montgomery County Police spokesman.
It's the fifth attack in roughly two weeks in a county that usually sees less than 20 murders per year. Police aren't saying if the attacks are related, but say they share a theme: the suspects knew their victims.
"It's hard to prevent something when the two people know each other," Starks says.
Despite a boost in crime, police say they don't plan to add more cops to the street.
In the Bel Pre neighborhood, that's troubling news for some of the residents, including three sisters who say they're living in fear.
Montgomery County Police urge anyone with knowledge of the incident to please contact their Crime Solvers tip line: 866-411-TIPS (8477) or visit http://www.mymcpnews.com/resources/crime-solvers-2/ to leave an anonymous tip. They say every piece of information, no matter how big or small, could be relevant to the investigation.
