Driver falls asleep, hits two Virginia men, killing one in Utah
LEHI, Utah (AP) - The Utah Highway Patrol says a driver who apparently fell asleep at the wheel struck two Virginia men on the side of Interstate 15 about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City, killing one and critically injuring the other.
Troopers say 42-year-old Boyd Miles and 23-year-old Christopher Crandall, both of Franklin County, Va., were standing early Saturday around their semitrailer that had broken down and was on the shoulder of I-15 near Lehi.
A tow truck driver was hooking the semi up to his vehicle when all three men were struck by a car driven by 27-year-old James Warren of Lehi.
Miles was dragged about 150 feet and died at the scene. Crandall was taken to a Provo hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
The tow truck driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene, while Warren escaped injury.
