Carol Crawford has volunteered with Olney HELP for about 20 years. Twice a month, she loads up her car and delivers food to families in need.

“The funny thing about Olney HELP is you think you’re going to go out and do good for somebody and then it just blesses you,” Crawford said.

In September, ABC7 did a story with Olney HELP. At the time, some of the shelves in their building sat bare and volunteers were nervous they’d be able to keep them stocked.

“If I think about my clients and the fact that they might not be able to get help next month, yes, it frightens me. It makes me want to go out on the street corner and tell people about Olney HELP,” Crawford said.

Crawford says since the ABC7 story aired and they kicked off a collection drive, they’ve seen an outpouring of donations.

“It has really increased the donations, it has increased the people who are calling in to volunteer,” she explained.

The group says they rely on donations and they’re feeling the support through full collection boxes set up across the area.

“This is a blessing that you’re willing to put this out there and draw people in to Olney HELP,” Crawford said.

“Our country is full of good hearted people and if they hear a cause, they jump on it.”
