A Baltimore County native who plays lacrosse at an upstate New York university was beaten so severely late last month that he needed facial reconstructive surgery, the Watertown Daily Times reports.

Donald Whelley, a 21-year-old sophomore at Clarkson University who grew up in Catonsville, was attacked by two men in the early morning hours of Aug. 24, leaving him with a broken jaw, broken orbital bone and several cuts.

The two men accused of beating Whelley, who plays defense for Clarkson's lacrosse team, were arraigned last Thursday. Bryan Bicknell and Dakota Vallance were both charged with felony second-degree assault.

The suspects are due back in court on Friday.
