WASHINGTON (WJLA) - The Donald came to D.C. to roll out plans for Trump International Hotel's $200 million renovation of the Old Post Office pavilion, turning the federal office space into a luxury hotel.
But daughter Ivanka, who is eight months pregnant, was the real star of the show. As Executive Vice President for Acquisitions, she did the work that landed Trump on top - and other big names like Hilton threatened to sue after losing the bid.
"I feel our vision will speak for itself," she said. "I think our execution will be flawless and that's something we really pride ourselves on -- overdelivering and exceeding people's expectations."
The Trump Organization will lease the federal office building for 60 years. Most of the hotel rooms will showcase modern designs but the vast majority of the building, which is deemed a historic structure, will be preserved. That includes the building's well known facade and clock tower.
The atrium inside the historic building, which is only blocks from the White House, already has a grand hotel lobby feel to it. After a $200 million renovation, the hotel will house some of the largest and most expensive rooms in the city.
On Tuesday, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and others touted the Trump brand. The hotel is expected to bring in 800 constructions jobs, 300 hotel jobs, and more than $100 million in tax revenues - plus lease payments to the federal government.
And despite Donald Trump's antagonistic relationship with President Obama, the city's top Democrats are vying to offer praise.
"Anything i can do to help," offered D.C. politician Jack Evans.
Ivanka Trump says that winning the bid despite her father's politics validates the fact that they had the best proposal. Donald confirms that he always knew they did.
"We were chosen for numerous reasons -- number one, we have a very strong balance sheet; number two, I think our vision was so much better than anyone else's," he said.
But now that he and Obama will be neighbors, does Trump plan to invite him over?
"He's invited over anytime he wants!" said Trump.
The 270 Rooms will average 600 square feet, and reportedly cost more than $700 a night. The old tear annex will be transformed into a huge 50,000-square-foot presidential ballroom.
