Don Dwyer to go to trial May 14
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A Maryland state delegate accused of operating a powerboat while drunk plans to discuss the charges against him as he prepares to stand trial.
The Capital of Annapolis reports that Del. Don Dwyer will hold a news conference Monday, one day before his trial in Annapolis is scheduled to start.
Dwyer, an Anne Arundel County Republican, is charged in a boating crash on the Magothy River last August that injured multiple people.
Dwyer, who is seeking re-election, has admitted being drunk at the time of the crash.
He has said he began drinking heavily as a result of a separation from his wife and because he felt betrayed by fellow lawmakers who voted in support of gay marriage legislation.
