Anne Arundel County Delegate Don Dwyer was sentenced to 30 days behind bars Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to driving a boat while intoxicated, according to ABC2.

District Court Judge Robert Wilcox denied his request for probation before judgment.

Wilcox told Dwyer he wouldn't get special treatment since lawmakers have an obligation to obey laws and ordered the Anne Arundel County Republican to pay a $1,000 fine.

Dwyer appealed the decision and won't go to jail for another 60 days, pending the outcome of his appeal.

Prosecutors say Dwyer and eight other people were hurt when his boat collided with another boat in the Magothy River last August.

At the time, Dwyer's blood alcohol was 0.24, which is three times the legal limit.

During a news conference held Monday, Dwyer says he had taken responsibility for his actions "and always would be."
