The man who allegedly raped a young postal worker in Silver Spring last month was arrested Tuesday.
Police say Dennis Nathan Carpenter, 47, raped the 21-year-old woman at knifepoint while she was on her lunch break. The woman was walking behind the post office on University Boulevard when Carpenter allegedly forced her into the backyard of a nearby home and raped her.
The victim's mother says Carpenter threatened her daughter if she cried for help.
"The guy told her to pretend everything was OK and to make it look like it was normal," she says.
Carpenter was arrested in Southeast Washington. He's being held in D.C. pending extradition to Montgomery County.
