Demetrice Littles pleads guilty, gets 2 years

Demetrice Littles will spend two years behind bars.

A 19-year-old pleaded guilty Friday to trying to steal an off duty D.C. police officer’s vehicle while the officer’s 9-year-old was in the back seat and will spend two years in prison.

Demetrice Littles pleaded guilty to one count of theft, second degree assault in connection with the March incident in Clinton.

"While we understand that Mr. Littles was not aware that the officer's daughter was in the car at the time, his actions could have caused her and her father to be harmed," said Prince George’s County state’s attorney Angela Alsobrooks in a statement. "I am pleased that we have removed Mr. Littles from our community and I hope that he takes this time to learn from this incident."

The officer was on his way to dropping off his daughter at school when Littles got into the vehicle and drove away without knowing the child was in the back seat, authorities say.

The officer fired at Littles as he drove away but did not harm Littles or the child.
