(WJLA) - The race between a group of Democrats hoping to win the 8th Congressional District seat in Virginia just got a little smaller now that one hopeful candidate has left the race.

Del. Charniele L. Herring (D-46th) announced Monday that she was ending her campaign and backing candidate Don Beyer, the Washington Post reports.

Herring was one of 10 Democrats hoping to replace Rep. Jim Moran, who is retiring. Eight candidates remain in the race, including Beyer, Del. Patrick A. Hope (D-47th), Sen. Adam P. Ebbin (D-49th), Lavern Chatman, former head of the Northern Virginia Urban League, Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille, radio host Mark Levine, Virginia Tech Professor Derek Hyra, and former Navy pilot Bruce Shuttleworth.

Herring is the second candidate to drop out. Satish Korpe dropped out of the race last week.
