      Deer approaches students in Arlington

Students at Glebe Elementary School in Arlington got a real-life lesson in wildlife Monday after a deer was seen approaching students at the school.

Animal Welfare League of Arlington Deputy Executive Director Susan Sherman says her organization was notified by police Monday morning about a deer that had been approaching students near the school, located in the 1700 block of North Glebe Road.

An animal control officer was sent out in an attempt to locate the deer. The officer believes the deer is now in a nearby park and the officer is no longer on the scene.

Animal control officials are contacting officials at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to determine how they should proceed at this point.
