Gusty winds will develop today as another strong cold front approaches the area. Temperatures this morning are much{ }milder than they were yesterday at the same time. Southerly winds and increasing cloud cover have kept conditions mild enough that there is no threat of wintry weather today for areas east of the Blue Ridge. Skies will become mostly cloudy and scattered showers will be likely through the day. Temperatures will climb close to 50 degrees. But then tonight, another surge of cold air will arrive with gusty northwesterly winds. And by tomorrow, you will know it is still winter with sunny, windy and cold weather across the entire region.

Sunny and seasonably cold conditions are forecast for Thursday. On Friday, another area of low pressure will approach our area. There will be a chance for some mixed precipitation in places on Friday morning but guidance suggests warmer temperatures will turn any mix{ }to plain rain. The rain may continue into the weekend.
