D.C. unemployment rate rises one full percentage point

As the unemployment rate hovers around 9 percent nationally, job numbers within the District of Columbia are starting to look bleaker.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says that the unemployment rate within D.C. have gone up nearly an entire percentage point since June.

More than 18,000 District residents filed for unemployment benefits in June alone, pushing the jobless rate past 6 percent.

Nearly 200,000 Washingtonians are now looking for work.
